We are working people.

The Rhode Island AFL-CIO works every day to improve the lives of people who work.

We help people who want to join together in unions so they can bargain collectively with their employers for better working conditions and the best way to get a good job done. We work to ensure that all people who work are treated fairly, with decent paychecks and benefits, safe jobs, respect and equal opportunities. To help working people acquire valuable skills and job-readiness for 21st century work, we operate the largest training network outside the U.S. military. And we provide an independent voice in politics and legislation for working women and men and make their voices heard in corporate boardrooms and the financial system.

Constituency Groups and Community Partners

The Rhode Island AFL-CIO’s constituency groups are unions’ bridge to diverse communities, creating and strengthening partnerships to enhance the standard of living for all workers and their families.

The Institute for Labor Studies & Research (ILSR) is a private, non-profit educational institution that provides education and training to enable working Rhode Islanders and the labor movement to have a stronger voice in the workplace, to participate more effectively in Rhode Island’s changing job market and to create a more just and equitable society.

Our purpose is to decrease the burden of disability by reducing workplace illness and injury.  Through consultation with patients and physicians, as well as educational programs regarding current occupational and environmental concerns, the OEHCRI strives to provide the resources necessary to promote a healthy workforce.

Climate Jobs Rhode Island is a broad and growing coalition of labor, environmental, and community partners committed to a just transition to an equitable, pro-worker, pro-climate green economy. With grounding principles in economic, environmental, racial, and social justice we can simultaneously address climate change, create thousands of good union jobs, and advance racial and economic equity throughout the state.

RICOSH

The RI Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (RICOSH) is a non-profit resource center for occupational and environmental health and safety. Our primary focus is to prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury. RICOSH pursues this goal in three broad areas: training, technical assistance, and advocacy.

The mission of the Rhode Island Alliance for Retired Americans (RI ARA) is to ensure social and economic justice and full civil rights for all citizens so that they may enjoy lives of dignity, personal and family fulfillment and security.  The RI ARA believes that all older and retired persons have a responsibility to strive to create a society that incorporates these goals and rights and that retirement provides them with opportunities to pursue new and expanded activities with their unions, civic organizations and their communities.
