The Future is Union Launch – September 4, 2023

Labor Day we launched The Future is Union, a digital photo gallery showcasing the clean energy economy and the union workers building it.The gallery is intended to give the public, particularly our allies in the climate fight, an on-the-ground look at the important work that unions are doing to build clean energy. Help us celebrate labor’s leadership on climate by sharing this gallery with your affiliates and amplifying it on social media. You can find sample social media content for the launch in this digital toolkit.

A bit about how the project works: Anyone can submit a photo to the gallery via the submission form on the website. Submitted photos may be featured on the Future is Union website and entered for a chance to win a cash prize. You’ll see some of the photos from last year’s green jobs photo contest already up on the Future is Union website!

Photos should be related to clean energy and the union workers at the heart of this new economy. Examples include, but are not limited to: construction, operations, or maintenance of utility-scale solar and wind; building retrofits or upgrades, electric vehicles; climate education; clean energy manufacturing; and more.

Please reach out to Climate Jobs Rhode Island Lead Organizer, Erica Hammond, Erica@climatejobsri.org, if you have any questions.

Providence Business News: Report: R.I. 14th overall best state for workers, 15th for working women

PROVIDENCE – Oxfam’s latest report on U.S. working conditions by state placed Rhode Island as the 14th best state for workers overall, and the 15th best for working women.

The U.K. charitable organization released its annual “Best and Worst States to Work in America 2023” index on Thursday, which saw the Ocean State rise one place from last year in each category from 2022, when it ranked 15th best overall and 16th best for working women.

Oxfam determines the rankings based on 26 policies, all of which fall under the broader categories of wages, worker protections and rights to organize. The report includes the 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and considers policies in place by July.

In the three highlighted categories, the report ranked Rhode Island 18th overall for wage policies, 12th for worker protections and 14th for rights to organize.
